Ioa Beduneau presents debut LP on Marionette
Based in the south of France, Ioa Beduneau brings an entirely refreshing perspective to experimental electronic music; a proud disabled artist inspired by Pauline Olivieros’ deep listening theory, ethnomusicology, bioacoustics, quantum physics and the natural world.
By placing disability pride at the forefront of his work, Beduneau counteracts the lack of visibility disabled artists often have in contemporary experimental and electronic music. With modular synths, DIY instruments and ‘self-playing’ installations, Beduneau makes exploratory, contemplative electronic music that aims to open up dialogues around disability.
After a run of solo & collaborative output, live shows across France & Belgium, and several appearances on LYL Radio and Kiosk Radio, Beduneau now presents his debut album ‘Mélodies pour Clairons’ on the respected outlet Marionette, home to releases by the likes of Valentina Magaletti, Burnt Friedman, Max Loderbauer, Soundwalk Collective, Pierre Bastien, and Andrea Belfi & Jules Reidy.
As well as those trusty synths and handmade instruments, Beduneau incorporates a range of sounds from a medieval trumpet, organic ASMR tones, synthesized bird calls and more. Testifying to a boundless sense of imagination and an original approach to sound, the album doubles up as a heartfelt dedication to a loved one.
Across six fascinating soundscapes, Beduneau evokes a surreal, darkly luminescent world where the seemingly microscopic becomes intensely magnified and vivid; a space where molecular organisms are brought to life through sound. Curious, woozy and hypnotic, it’s an album that deserves a close listen.
The latest track to emerge from the album, ‘Cloches & Trompes‘, brings to mind the bewitching sound of a Gamelan orchestra, the kind you might hear in your dreams.
‘Mélodies pour Clairons’ is out 21st November, check out the beautiful artwork for the vinyl edition and have a listen below.
