We’re premiering the video for the first new music from C.A.R. since 2020…yay!

The mighty C.A.R. returns to Ransom Note Records with splendid new single, Anzu, for another excursion into hitherto uncharted territory. Their first new music on Ransom Note Records since the 2020 LP, Crossing Prior Street, C.A.R. (aka Chloé Raunet + Joni Green on live duties) treats us to an Avant Pop masterpiece, which conceals a somewhat insalubrious undercurrent… Anzu is a song drenched in personal history, written about bygone days, when life revolved around a now lost pub in a sewn-up pocket of town. References might scream from the sleeve, but we’re not swimming in nostalgia. This is a deceivingly dark song. Any sweetness chased at the time ain’t to be sugar-coated.

The video we’re premiering is a “slight nod to Larry Clarke in this collision of miniDV home-footage, shot on location in Marseille, Detroit, Brick Lane and Little Portland Street, in 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2023, respectively.” Chloe Raunet

On the flip side, R$N Records and Bytes regular GLOK (a.k.a. Andy Bell of Ride and Oasis fame) has reworked Anzu into an utterly filthy little basement club number. Dripping in sordid fervour, the wonky bass line arrives like a shot the chest cavity, leaving us a little breathless at first. The sheer force of the forward momentum of it soon has us back on our feet though, as we’re propelled onto the dance floor, where this remix has very firmly made its home.
