Ron Trent announces first album in 11 years

Ron Trent has revealed details of his first long player in 11 years, What Do The Stars Say To You, for Night Time Stories.
The release is a love letter to the album format, and pays homage to the 70s and 80s boom in extravagant and forward thinking LPs.
Across its 10 tracks, Trent has enlisted a stellar cast of musicians and artists to join him: Ivan Conti and Alex Malheriros of legendary Brazilian jazz-funk outfit Azymuth; violin maestro Jean Luc Ponty; ambient producer and Gaussian Curve member Gigi Masin and Thai funk group Khruangbin, whilst NY producer François K mastered the release.
Trent provided drums, percussions, keys, synths, piano, guitar and electronics throughout the release, culminating in a smooth and musically rich release that he describes as being “designed for harmonising with spirit, urban life and nature”.
Speaking about some of the collaborations on the LP, Trent explained that “I’m a huge fan of everyone on the record, especially Jean Luc and Azymuth, who’re part of my DNA. Each track was made with that guest in mind – for example, when I started writing Sphere, I immediately thought ‘this IS Ponty’. I played the keys in his style, and did a guide violin solo using a synth, which he then re-did, amazingly. Cool Water is based around Azymuth themes, so when I sent it to Ivan, he could immediately see himself in the piece; He got what I was going for straight away.”
Ron Trent started his career with the techno anthem ‘Altered States’, written when he was just a teenager. This became the springboard for a career spent in Chicago, New York and Detroit, which shaped his sound: a signature fusion of deftly produced deep, soulful house. As well as starting Prescription Records, alongside Chez Damier, he is also behind MusicandPower, and has released music on then likes of Peacefrog, Future Vision and Rush Hour, to name just a few.
