Baby Sy and AIIOM release debut LP as ‘DÉERR’

DÉERR is a new electronic duo made up of Senegalese vocalist and member of Jokkoo Collective, Baba Sy, and producer AIIOM.
The pair have come together to self-release their first ever album, Punkal, which draws from Gqom, Singeli and Afro Electro.
The release is an introduction to their singular sound which marries traditional and contemporary sounds, and ruminates on subjects related to Baba Sy’s life.
Over the LP’s nine-track duration Baba explores themes like corruption, our relationship to nature, hedonism and family, captured through his raw emotive vocals and passionate lyricism.
The lead single ‘Senegal Bondelene’ caught the ears of French electronic producer Débruit and Afrofuturist Ibaaku who offered up their own takes as part of the remix package.
