Hazy, hopeful stardust on the spring air – locked-groove krautrock discipline shot through with kosmische shimmer.

There once was a fruit of a most peculiar, strange, who wandered the cosmos and found it quite strange.
He drifted through dreamscapes with Pouvoir Moteur, and dripped from his fingers a shimmering blur.

He talked to himself in a restless refrain, “I’m bottled! I’m absurd! I’m a kinetic pain!” But on Gentle Tuesday he paused in his spin, And the week became soft where the week had been thin,
For even a Fruit full of bottled-up dread Needs one tender day to unscramble his head.

So if you should meet this most luminous Fruit, who buzzes and drones in a genre-bent suit,
don’t ask him his name or the way that he came- Just listen, feel confused, and ask questions the same.

With a runcible synth and a curious drone, Strange Fruit are genuinely, gloriously alone.

Jakarta’s Strange Fruit with the last track from their Drips EP is something super special. Pouvoir Moteur –  French for “motoric power,” since you asked – is exactly what that sounds like: locked-groove krautrock discipline shot through with kosmische shimmer, the kind of track that makes the road ahead feel endless and the destination irrelevant.

The ghost of Can’s engine room is all over it, that locked hypnosis that somehow never quite repeats itself, while Cluster’s smeared electronics hover at the periphery. Aryadiaz, who conceived it partly out of an obsession with factory machinery and, apparently, partly with German beer, describes the 4/4 pattern as feeling like “breaking through space and time.” We’re inclined to agree.

Out now via Gentle Tuesday Recordings, with a vinyl release to follow through Loide and TipTop Records. Stunning stuff.
