Mastery announces ‘Quantum Sound’ compilation on Houndstooth
London’s immersive sound collective Mastery releases their first full-length album, ‘Quantum Sound,’ on 12th February via Houndstooth.
Founded in 2023 by curator Bianca Mayhew, Mastery has spent the last two years running live installations and residencies. Now they’ve distilled those experiences into a sprawling compilation of meditative drones, long-form breathwork, and ambient electronic composition.
Jon Hopkins opens the album with a 20-minute offering, while founding members Cherub Sanson & Tim Wheater deliver contemplative sound‑meditations. Others contributing include Wata Igarashi, Manami, Jennifer Loveless, Ruthlss, Alessandro Cortini and Hannah Holland, who also provides a 60-minute continuous mix for full-body immersion. Listen to Djrum’s ‘Come Find Me’ here:
The compilation is the product of Mastery’s ongoing research into how sound can alter consciousness. Alongside the release, the collective has launched a partnership with neuroscientist Oliver Durcan and collaborators from Cambridge, Goldsmiths and Johns Hopkins to explore the brain’s response to deep listening and altered states.
