Tiefschwarz – 8 Tracks

Around 12 years ago some of us at Ransom Note Towers used to run a club night in a pub full of stuffed animals where all the bar staff- every last one of them- were of a pensionable age. They'd gamely pour pints, these old dears with shaky hands, whilst being barely cognitive of the techno and grime records banging out of their creaking soundsystem. One year we had a New Years Eve party where we played with the pub's house band. The piano player was blind, the drummer had a wooden leg, and their repertoire was a mix of risque songs about shagging young girls and bad Oasis covers. They were great, and we knew they'd set the bar pretty high. When we played, we had a secret weapon- the Tiefschwarz remix of Spektrum's Kinda New. Spektrum were a local band, and everyone in the place loved em. Tiefschwartz had taken their post punk groove and turned it into a fucking belter of techno and attitude that would tear the roof off. And really, Tiefschwartz have been making bangers ever since. Brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz have been producing for almost 20 years now. They run their own label, Souvenir, DJ like legends, and are heading to London to appear on Friday 27th March at Bloc's East London rave shed. So go and see them.
Here's 8 tracks the brothers find inspirational. And yeah, there's Phil Collins at Band Aid in there.
Tiefschwarz's new album "Left" comes out on 1st June on Watergate Records.

This Song is from Superitcher’s album Here comes Love, released in 2004 on Kompakt Records. On this song the vocals are sung by the one and only Charlotte Roche. The whole album is brilliant. Melancholia Pop.
