The Soft Moon – 8 Tracks For Halloween

Music

While some people are arrogantly turning their heads towards the end of year festivities, we've got our eyes firmly on the holiday prize: Halloween. You can't beat gorging out on sweets that were meant for the kids and listening to Monster Mash on repeat and it seems as though The Soft Moon agrees with us. By day he is Luis Vasquez, by night he becomes The Soft Moon as he goes out in search of aural treats to bring back to his lair. He's so excited by the impending festivities that he put together the above selection of sounds that are perfect for Halloween listening.

See The Soft Moon at Simple Things Festival in Bristol on Saturday 24th October – find out more here.

Modern English ~ 16 Days

I’m giving away a little secret by saying that the guitar tone on the Mesh & Lace album was what influenced my own for The Soft Moon. Although Modern English has many amazing pop hits I’d have to say that 16 Days is still my favourite by them.

  • Misfits - Static Age (Us) (1978)

I think any Halloween inspired mixtape would be incomplete without Misfits especially considering that their album Static Age was mainly inspired by old horror films.

  • Christian Death - Romeo´S Distress

If I were DJing a Halloween party I would most certainly include the legendary Christian Death.

  • Iron Curtain - Terror Story

Iron Curtain is one of my all time favourite bands. I’ve always found it interesting that they were from Santa Barbara. Probably one of the creepiest songs I’ve ever heard.

  • Alien Sex Fiend - Now I'M Feeling Zombified (Video)

The song title says it all.

  • The Cramps - "Goo Goo Muck"

    R.I.P Lux Interior.

  • Slayer ~ Angel Of Death (Lyrics)

I’ve listened to Slayer’s Reign In Blood album more than any other album in my life. Such a beautifully brutal song.

  • Screamin Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell On You

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins sounds creepy as fuck on this song and for that reason it felt worthy to be included on this halloween inspired mix.
