Not Waving – 8 Tracks Of Animal Love

Music

There seems like no better week to be talking about a new LP called Animals than one in which we've all been spending countless hours coming up with pig-puns. But for Not Waving his love for our animal friends is far more aural than oral and his new album celebrates our multi-legged friends rather than humiliates them. To celebrate the album's release, we asked Not Waving to provide us with a selection of his favourite animal-related tracks – to give them them kind of love they truly deserve.

See Not Waving at Club To Club's 'Italian New Wave' special on Thursday September 24th at Village Underground – find out more here.

Black Eyes - A Pack Of Wolves

One of my all time favourite Dischord bands. As most of the bands on Dischord they only released two albums and broke up at the height of their popularity. I was lucky enough to see a few of their European shows and loved them. They were chaotic and ended up in long rhythmic jams with both the band and the audience going mental. They had two drummers, two bass players, two singers and a saxophone! Amazing lyrics too, especially in the oblique sexual politics of this song.

  • Blurt - The Fish Needs A Bike

Love everything in this song from the catchy guitar loop to the 7″ artwork. It’s super rough and urgent but not unfinished or sparse. A little pop masterpiece.

  • F:A.R. - Dinosauri

F:A.R. were one of the first Italian “industrial” bands. They released 3 LPs and 6 tapes through the eighties and disappeared in the early 90s only to reappear in 2010. Apparently their live shows were proper life changing experiences. Wish I could have been there! Mauro Guazzotti, the founder of the band, also has a solo project that I think is still active today and is called MGZ, a dark, acid, parodistic, techno punk guru.

  • The Monorchid-Beard Of Bees

Forming around a couple of veterans of the DC hardcore outfit Circus Lupus, the Monorchid are quite difficult to describe. As a kid, I remember liking them a lot but not really understanding why. It is weird mutant blues punk, very confrontational but also compelling and super catchy.

  • Not Waving - Animals / 24 (Ripped Version) [Diagonal 2015]

This is off my new album hopefully out in early 2016. This was the 24th idea I worked on and at some point I gave it the title “Animals” which then became the title for the album so this song went back to being called 24.

  • Spk - Day Of Pigs

I guess this is perfect for this week’s piggate news?

  • This Heat - Diet Of Worms

This Heat were ahead of everyone else and still are. They are also the reason why Not Waving exists.

  • Wolf Eyes--Half Animal, Half Insane

What can I say about Wolf Eyes? They are mad and I love them.
