Influences: Lokier

Music

Now then, who's the baddest girl in town? It might just be Lokier…

We've been fans of the lady from Mexico City for many years now, she plays great records and took us all by surprise with her new release on Squirrels On Film, the San Francisco based record label run by Solar and Brian Hock. Her appearance was no small feat, especially given how tight knit the label has been prior to her feature. Based in Barcelona she also makes up a half of the infamous duo She Made Monster alongside Morgan Hammer. Not one to keep things light she has nominated an eclectic array of influences which she guides us through below – things are about to get spooky…

Erik Satie - Gnossienne No.3

I fell in love with Satie’s compositions when I was learning how to play piano. Everything about him is so interesting and emotive. Even the music sheets are crazy and unique. I sometimes listen to his music when I want to relax. It gives me chills.

  • House Aka Hausu (1977)

This movie is insane. When I really like something I become a bit obsessed for a while, and it definitely happened to me with this film. Visually is just impressive. All the colors and effects. I even did some soundtrack music for it at the time. Never really finished it but it inspired me for sure.

  • Claude Monet Biography

I painted for many years since I was a kid. My last years of painting I was into impressionism. I liked it visually but mostly I really enjoyed doing it. There’s was something about Monet that caught my attention and I remember at the time I would go to museums to see his paintings and I would sit there for a long time and almost cry.

  • Suspiria Soundtrack - Goblin (1977)

After watching this movie I got more into horror soundtracks. For a long time I was trying to find the weirdest movies with interesting crazy soundtracks. I did a few tracks inspired by Goblin too.

  • The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari

I watched this movie in my film class when I was in college. I was impressed by it. The make up and set design is amazing. I’m not sure how it inspired me but it definitely stayed in my mind for a long time.

  • The House Is Haunted By Roy Fox (1934)

One of my dream jobs as a kid was to work at a haunted house haha. Not that I enjoy scaring people but just being inside with the dim lights and the vintage dark and dirty looking spaces gave me chills. I even asked for a job at one once but they weren’t hiring. Anyway I became friends with the vampire working at the reception and he would let me go and hang out inside.

  • A Walk Among The Graves.

I love old cemeteries! Not the new ones though, I think the new ones are really sad. The old ones have so much history and feels like you’re in a movie set or something. Most of them are scary looking too. Like Abney Park in London, that one is great! It’s so scary looking and at the same time you see little kids having a picnic in the graves, amazing.
