Dj Qu – Influences

Music
The first time you're going to have heard Ramon Lisandro Quezada – aka DJ Qu – on record was when he contibuted the techno whirr of Mixing Room to the killer “Expressway EP ”, released through TS records back in '06. Since then Qu has become a fixture on the New York circuit – and beyond – exploring deep avenues of house and techno, trading in everything from submerged, murky techno melodies to the precise electronic soul of tracks such as the Peven Everett featuring The Way.

Unsurprisingly Qu's influences stretch accross jazz and techno – and we're always happy when someone finds time for Stevie's piano banger All I Do. Want more? Keep up with Qu via his facebook. You can also catch Qu playing in London's No Fit State party on New Years Day, alongside Rolando (big!) and more. The event takes place at the Bloc studios, Hackney Wick. Johnny Hammond - Los Conquistadores Chocolatés - 1975 [Jazz-Funk]

This song has shaped so much of what I’m into today. I cherish so much different music but this song is a staple for me and I learned so much musically from actually dancing to this funny enough. Pure creative expression.

  • Stevie Wonder - All I Do

Stevie Wonder is one of the greatest music artists ever period! Like me, I think a lot of artists today in almost any genre of music that’s from a certain age group learned a lot from Stevie Wonder. Way too much talent for one person…lol. Listening to Stevie really makes me want to be better at instruments etc.

  • Tyree - Acid Crash

Tyree’s Acid Crash is a track that together with a couple other Chicago tracks pretty much locked me into House music and I never looked back since. There are so many of my productions that carry a certain element of energy that I learned from tracks like this one.

  • Alive Tv Reck'n Shop From Newyork Brooklyn In 1992

Here’s a documentary that shows the scene that raised me when it comes to music and club culture. From Jazz to Hip-Hop to Funk to House to Techno to whatever else was found in a lot of the clubs that i traveled to at the time and i credit this scene for a lot of what I learned. I wouldn’t be a producer or DJ if it wasn’t for my love of this particular NY scene. This Documentary focuses more on the Hip-Hop side of things but all these people featured can also be found in the Dance music clubs as well.

  • Nuyorican Soul-It's Alright(I Feel It)

No doubt about it, Masters at Work are one of my biggest inspirations in Dance music from back then. Their sound elevated the game to another form in a sense. So many spiritual uplifting moments when dealing with their music in the past two decades. Here’s a special song under their Nuyorican Soul moniker. Pure emotion! Major force in my musical upbringing.
