8 Tracks: From Outer Space With IMOGEN

Music

You might have seen London-based DJ and producer IMOGEN's name popping up all over the place of late, no doubt down to her no-holds-barred approach to selection and surefire confidence behind the decks. Her own productions shadow the sounds she's become known for in her DJ sets, heavy electro, hypnotic dark techno and broken electronica, and have seen her pick up slots at Berghain, Jaded and Printworks.

Recently she was invited by Peggy Gou to be part of RA's Lift LDN party and, following a guest appearance on Moxie's show, has become one of NTS Radio's newest residents.

Ahead of her appearance at this year's Junction 2 festival, she shares her favourite tracks from outer space…

Follow IMOGEN. Catch her at Junction 2 (7th-8th June).

Paula Temple - Raging Earth [Nm009]

The synths in this track are so beautiful and so is Paula’s message with her whole album, highlighting the importance of climate change and saving our planet. This track ‘Raging Earth’ makes me think of someone looking down from space at the earth and realising how fucked up we are for not trying to fix it.

  • Galaxian - Golden Armageddon [Natural028]

It’s hard to choose a favourite from this EP out on Manchester label Natural Sciences, but ‘Golden Armageddon’ totally sets you back half way through. After listening to whirling euphoric pads you are hit with the usual Galaxian madness of uneasy twisted synths. Messing you up for the whole nine minutes.

  • Volruptus - Misanthropy (Dark Stöff) V1 M1

Volruptus’ music sounds like it’s from another dimension. This track is one of my favourites from him, so full of energy. Perfect peak timer. Anything that you come across on Bjarki’s bbbbbb will not disappoint you for sure.

  • Workaholic Paranoid Bitch

This track is absolutely mental, I love it, perfect to reset the vibe at the beginning of the set. The remix from Afrodeutsche is great too.

  • Ebi - Take

This tune is so dreamy and nice for home listening, the glitchy toms contrasting with the warm drones give a nice feel.

  • Umwelt - Days Of Dissent

I have been playing this track out for as long as I can remember. It’s so powerful. I love the arpeggio lead and panning snares, check out Umwelts ‘Rave or Die’ label too which always provides the goods.

  • Aux 88 - Alien Life Form

I could not forget Aux 88, the pioneers for this. ‘Alien Life Forms’ is one of my favourites from them, super groovy yet trippy at the same time.

  • Beat Movement - 90 Degrees [Dlbmv00z]

I remember closing with this track in Säule last year, maybe that’s why it’s special for me. I love the vocal moving in and out of the track and the fast repetitive synths make you lose yourself. It’s always great to have neon pink artwork too 🙂
