Perel and Marie Davidson team up for new single on Kompakt

Perel has announced a new album on Kompakt with the lead single ‘Jesus Was An Alien’, which features Ninja Tune affiliate Marie Davidson.

Her first record on the reputed German label, Jesus Is An Alien, seeks to raise questions and spawn answers around religion and modern beliefs, namely “Who are our arms raised to? Who are we seeking salvation from?”

Her second LP following Hermetica, her 2019 debut on DFA Records, this 10-track release still channels her diverse musical influences which stretch from indie dance, electro and wave to rave, acid and experimental, predominantly laced with her sultry, breathy vocal talents.

Speaking about the release, which is due in full on 6th May, Perel explains that: “Jesus Was An Alien is a discourse about whether Jesus was an actual alien, but also a social debate about what is and implies religion today.”

On the title track, which features Davidson’s vocals, Perel continues: “I already said everything with my synthesizers and the melodies I created, somehow she [Marie Davidson] gave the song a voice I couldn’t.”
