Busy P pays homage to DJ Mehdi by releasing their collaboration from 2001

‘MPC 2021’ features vocalists Santigold and Benjamin Epps and is out now via Ed Banger Records / Because Music.

Ed Banger Records boss Busy P (real name Pedro Winter) and pioneering French hip hop and house producer DJ Mehdi (real name Mehdi Favéris-Essadi) began working on the track in 2001 – the same year that Mehdi suffered a tragic accident that resulted in his untimely death.

Last year, Winter managed to retrieve the floppy disk which contained all the samples and drum kits from the track’s conception twenty years prior and decided to put it to use.

Add in vocals from the likes of French hip hop artist, Benjamin Epps, and iconic American vocalist, Santigold, and MPC 2021 is an energetic, genre-defying track, led by flamenco guitar and acid undertones.

MPC 2021 is now available on all streaming platforms and Busy P instructs to ‘play it loud so Mehdi can hear it up there’. Listen to the track here.
