Tronik Youth – The Ransom Note Mix

Music

Nein Records owner and fervent remixer Tronik Youth first shot to prominence with his remix of the then unknown The Gossip. He went on to deliver sterling work for labels such as Southern Fried, Back Yard Recordings and Skint, before setting up Nein with business partner Ian Considine in 2012.
In the two years since, Nein has released it's acclaimed edit series CTRL-S, which will see it's fifth volumes issued later in 2014.
We caught up with Tronik Youth to talk us through the mutant disco joy of our most recent Ransom Note Mix.

Who are you:

Tronik Youth AKA Neil Parnell

Where are you:

Canterbury, England

What are you:

Half man/half disco biscuit.

Where was the mix recorded?

At home, in a comfy chair… With my dog staring at me.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Having fun fun fun on the Autobahn, or on the Trans-Europe Express.

What should we be wearing?

A smile, and something with a touch of style

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

With a waterproof laptop in an infinity pool in Hawaii.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Probably Emile Strunz's track Merck 274350…. Pure robot sex music.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Either a cassette of a Derrick May mix from the Music Institute 1988 where he's mixing three copies of French Kiss…. Then mixes another track in to French Kiss as it slows down. Mind bending… or a Danielle Baldelli Cosmic Tape… Probably C67 which is just an amazing blend of music.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

I would love to have DJ'd at Cosmic with Baldelli… I truly think if i had a time machine I would just go clubbing to the Music Box in Chicago or Paradise Garage… Screw seeing dinosaurs or Jesus.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I had a Sony belt drive turntable and one Technics belt drive too… and a Gemini mixer from Tandys… Now I use Traktor or Ableton to do DJ mixes.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Always the opening track – it sets the mood and people have shorts attention spans these days, you have to grab them straight away.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First record I ever bought with my own money? Changesonebowie…. played it to death and the last one was the new Black Light Smoke ep Firefly…He is the most slept on artist out there.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Dark chocolate with a minty centre.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Aphex Twin – Windowlicker.. all over the place timing-wise, plus anything on early Trax.

Upcoming in the world of Tronik Youth?

Three new Tronik Youth singles out in the next three months with some amazing remixes from In Flagranti, Red Axes and Richard Sen amongst others.

Anything else we need to discuss?

My Label Nein has just signed 4 new artists which makes me really excited for 2015.
