Ceili: The ‘Wednesday Alternative’ Mix

Music

Like the origin of his DJ and production name, London-based Irishman Céilí is no stranger to a good old knees up.

One of the regular DJs soundtracking early mornings at techno mainstay Jaded, Céilí’s rough n ready (pun intended) blend of techno, acid and fast-paced electronics seeps from his record bag directly into his own musical output. Over the last few years he’s notched up solo releases and collaboration for labels like TITDM, Ophism, Obscuur and Lobster Theremin channeling his love for pounding rhythms that are rich with melody.

He takes care of this week’s Wednesday Alternative mix and he doesn’t let up. No holds barred from the off, Céilí moves through whirring acid techno, crunchy industrial rhythms and rumbling electro — tune in, strap in, and please keep your arms inside the vehicle at all times!

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you

Céilí. London.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

</3

Where was the mix recorded?

In a turf shed in Ireland.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

In a turf shed in Ireland.

What should we be wearing?

Anything you feel comfortable in.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

In a turf shed but with a pair of monitors instead of the 20 year old guitar amp I was stuck with at the time.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

That’s very hard to say but there’s a Wheez-ie track half way through thas been a big favourite of mine for over a year now. Out soon on this new label I’ve been hearing big things about.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Yikes, I’m not good with favourites.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Alex Kidd at Hard Kandy.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Traktor scratch thing balanced over a million different objects in my room. Now I’ve got two turntables and a mixer thanks to a special loving friend of mine. :*

What were the first and last records you bought?

I think my first was either WK7 or some Joey Beltram record I’ve definitely lost & my last buy was some some dusty Robert Armani fix.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Sugar.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A Wolf Spider.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

There’s always a means to move it forward (call 070SPIN BACK for advice here).

Upcoming in the world of Céilí…

My latest project Mála Ádh presents LUCKYBAG001. Special shouts out to MarcelDune, DJ Ketaflush, Cressida, Wheez-ie & Julien Andreas for blessing me with such a killer cut.

Anything else we need to discuss?

You can Pre-Order it here. :*
