Skudge Talks

Christian Bernard-Cedervall and Elias Landberg, better known as Skudge, are a rather fine pair of Stockholm based producers… as you may well know already. Lovers of the machine their unbridled passion for analogue sounds along with a clear faith in the ever-trustworthy facial hair.

We asked Christian Bernard-Cedervall to give us an insight into the inner-Skudge…

Where are you from, where are you now?

I’m originally from Paris, France, but I’m based around Stockholm in Sweden with Elias now. 

What is house?

Something along this “I stand here in front of you all, feet on the ground, I’m horny, My hips and shoulders took over my mind and if you’re not happy with that, it’s all the same to me”

And maybe also “I’m on the list, +3”

What is techno?

Techno is escapism, it’s a highly romantic look upon impending doom. 

What’s the strangest thing that happened to you in 2013?

I lost my wallet 3 times with over 600 euros in it, and it got returned with the money each time!

What was the music of your teenage rebellion?

Hawkwind, Blue Oyster Cult, then Nirvana, then Einstrzende Neubauten, Nurse With Wound and Autechre.

Are you a kick drum, hi hat or a snare? And why?

Skudge IS kick drum of course, cos we can hide everything around it.

As well as the label, you guys run your own string of parties – what makes your parties so special?

Well, we usually have a local friend warming up, then we are the resident live act, which is pretty special. But it’s always different. Then we have ou main guest (Svengalisghost, Marco Bernardi and Koehler were the latest). I usually  jump in for a back to back in the last 30 mn. It’s usually pretty wild at that time!

Folklore, Hank Jackson, Aquarian Foundation, Dungeon Acid and Renart, if he keeps to his techno side…

You’re playing for notsosilent at La Cheetah Club next week. Knowing you’re already very familiar with the famous Glasgow party culture, are you looking forward to getting back to Glasgow?

That’s an understatement!

First record was a Hawkwind compilation that includes my fave tune from them, “Hash Cake”.
