Pittsburgh sound artist Davis Galvin is the next to contribute to our  first season of Music To Watch Seeds Grow By (an ambient, minimalist and new age label, designed to accompany the peaceful act of planting seeds).  This time offering a meditative soundscape inspired by the Delphinium Elatum.

“When people try to bury you, remind yourself you are a seed.” ― Matshona Dhliwayo

The composition marks a departure from Galvin’s previous electronic and technoid works, instead focusing on the subtle drama of plant growth through carefully constructed ambient textures. This new piece mirrors the journey of the towering perennial, which can reach heights of up to two metres, using gentle drones and atmospheric elements to reflect each stage of the plant’s development.

The release was chosen as The Guardian’s ‘Experimental Album Of The Month’.

“I first found Prism’s scoby-mother amongst some Delphiniums in the spring of ‘22, so you understand their inclusion here. Specifically, the petals of Delphinium Elatum were key to unlocking some of the heart of the composition."

While the composition stands as a testament to Galvin’s reputation for creating “labyrinthine” and “ASMR-like” soundscapes, it also demonstrates their commitment to patient, detail-oriented composition—qualities that parallel the art of gardening itself.

The release draws from Galvin’s extensive background in improvisation and studio work, as well as their experience producing Sweet Abyss, a monthly event series for trans electronics. According to Galvin, the piece was particularly influenced by their discovery of what they call “Prism’s scoby-mother” among Delphiniums in spring 2022, though their artistic statement about the work remains characteristically enigmatic, touching on themes of perception, memory, and transformation.

As ever if you buy the release on our Bandcamp you’ll get your very own Delphinium Elatum to grow along in contemplation with the aural soundtrack…

Each release will be in physical form on a recycled cassette, which will precede its digital counterpart by a few months, allowing the music to be experienced in its intended form first. Speaking of which you’ll find Woo’s first outing on all the monolithic, megalomaniacal, digital-streaming, devil platforms very shortly. However may we remind you of Posthuman’s pertinent quote. about supporting artists via Bandcamp.

As always, the artwork, concept and design by the great Daniel Herrmann aka our very own Flug 8. New music is coming from him soon, too by the way 😉

The cassette/digital album is available now via our Music To Watch Seeds Grow By Bandcamp page here

“Dedicated to intertwining the serene beauty of music with the nurturing process of planting seeds when the first new signs of life emerge in the growing season. A carefully crafted collection of ambient & minimalist soundscapes, occasionally branching into new-age. A soundtrack for quiet moments of sowing, nurturing, & witnessing the slow, rewarding process of growth. “
