They watched everything. They saw everything. From tall branches and from rooftops they gazed out upon the bitterness of the world below and took it all in with beady, bubbling eyes and a sense of bewilderment.

They flew through the crowds, once they were at one with the people who walked beneath.

In the evening they would shelter, away from the chaos of it all. For what else was for them to do?

They were the last birds of the sky in these parts, a rotten city left behind.
