If you’ve spent any time on Seoul’s dance floors lately, chances are you’ve come across the name ffan. And if you haven’t? Well, you’ve got some catching up to do.

ffan has carved out a reputation for his intricate and high-energy sets, navigating seamlessly through genres with a flair that is perfectly controlled. Whether he’s behind the decks or deep in the studio, ffan brings a wild, magnetic energy.

His sharp focus has led him to become a key figure in Seoul’s bubbling underground scene. As the founder of club Nyapi Seoul and Studio Namsan, ffan’s voice shimmers through all projects he touches.

There’s no better time to get acquainted with what ffan is bringing to the booth.

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you

My name is ffan.
I run Nyapi and studio namsan in Seoul, and I play music almost every weekend at various places.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Karel Appel Varkensmens (Pig Man) or L’arcade (The Arcade), 1961

Where was the mix recorded?

At my studio — but during the recording, one side of the CDJ jog wheel broke down.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Some hole

What should we be wearing?

A sweat-drenched, yellowed t-shirt.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

I love recording live during parties – in some good club with a good crowd and a good sound system

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

An-i – Kino i (Dub)

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

CHIDA at Cocktail D’Amore – Sun. Dec 6, 2015 – Pt.3 (11:00–13:30)

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Jose Padilla — he was my very first DJ.
My music journey began with Café del Mar.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I had a DJM500 and two Technics MK5s.
Now, I have an Iso420 mixer and still use MK5s — but the club is right in front of my house, so I rarely play at home anymore.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Hmm..

What were the first and last records you bought?

I don’t remember the very first one.
But one of the more recent ones I bought is Bobby Konders – House Rhythms EP.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Probably best not to eat it — it’d taste like a rotten, purple chocolate cake.

If it was an animal what would it be?

Like a huge mosquito.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

No

Upcoming in the world of…

?

Anything else we need to discuss?

Thanks for the invite.
If you’re having a bad day, this mix might help a little.
