Premiere: Mentrix – Nature (Pahlavan Seda Remix)

It was a freezing cold night, they'd been waiting in line for what seemed like forever. There had been several occasions where they'd considered leaving and finding somewhere warm and cosy rather than subjecting themselves to possible frostbite. But something kept them in line, perhaps it was the promise of it being the most elite place in town, a place to rub shoulders with anybody who is anybody. When they finally approached the entrance, the door man ushered them in with a quick nod. That hadn't been so difficult, his nature was much more forgiving than they'd expected.
As a follow up to her debut album My Enemy, My Love on her own House Of Strength label, Sufi-inspired singer and composer Mentrix has handpicked several artists to put their own spin on some of the tracks from the LP. Iranian-born but now based in Berlin, Mentrix fuses Eastern and Western sounds to explore the illusive dualities of existence and belonging, working with traditional Sufi instruments and crisp drum machines. On remix duties, she's invited the likes of Abu Ama, Local Suicide, Deadbeat, Spooky and our pick from newcomer Pahlaven Seda who strips back the original into an acid roller.
