Nathan Fake announces EP & shares title-track

Nathan Fake returns with ‘Caldera’, four tracks of rattling percussion, warped electronics, heavy kicks and melodies that keep trying to find their way through the noise. It’s a darker, more physical counterpart to February’s ‘Evaporator’, with the title track sitting at its centre.

The EP takes its name from its opening single, ‘Caldera’. Fake was drawn to the word for its strange duality. There’s the cold, still lake sitting inside the crater, and then there’s the volcano that made it. The track has a bit of that same tension running through it.

“I think a caldera is a lake at the top of a volcano, and the track feels quite versatile because it could be icy and cold, or it could be hot. It’s a word that doesn’t immediately conjure something up for most people, but I’m very into geographical stuff.”

The other three tracks, ‘Palau’, ‘Gong Gong’ and ‘Slow Yamaha Dub’, grew out of Fake’s ongoing habit of writing, testing and reshaping material between the studio and the stage. There’s no grand concept holding the EP together, just four pieces that found their way into the same place.
