Premiere: Bruxas – Muscle Memory
Decades had passed since he’d performed in front of anyone, that part of his life had faded away; a mere blip on his vast timeline. It’s funny how life throws different things at you—twists, turns, challenges—and with that your ambitions become morphed, your priorities change. But that evening, as soon as he picked up that instrument, it all came flooding back; just like muscle memory.
It was 2017 when we had our first introduction to Dutch psych outfit Bruxas’ spellbinding grooves. They followed this debut EP on Dekmantel up the following year with the sounds of ‘Sirocco’, and now, three years on, we’re being treated to their first long player on the label: ‘Muscle Memory’. Drawing influences from their respective musical backgrounds, across the record the pair utilise a reduced set up to explore improvisation and experimentation, crafting a melange of psychedelic melodies and heady rhythms with mind-expanding results.
