An infamous Margate boozer picks some of the records which makes their punters happy and their heads spin.

Hairdressers can often end up being confidantes, but it is all about the setting too.

Is there anything more annoying than bad music? So that is why ‘Music to cut hair to’ was created.

Here at the ATP Studios, headed Victoria Saunders, she cuts the hair of many of the people associated with this wonderful industry – hence being asked by R$N to compile a feature for them. Music To Cut Hair To, a selection of some great music compiled by great friends…

‘This months playlist is bought to you by The George & Heart. Yes! A pub/hotel in Margate with such a close tie to the ATP heart, I thought it was time my good friend Kelly bared her soul. The playlist did make me feel a tad emotional. It bought back so many memories of hazy nights & days but music was always at the centre of the fun. I also want to commend Kelly & Dan for their hard work in pulling the George & Heart together. Proud and chuffed are only two of the words that spring to mind. I’m over the moon for them. So without further ado, I take my hat off the salute them.’

• WHEN WERE YOU AT YOUR HAPPIEST?

When I didn’t have any responsibilities and rolled around without a care in the world! Ibiza care free days have to be high up there! My childhood was a happy one and I’m always happy sat on a beach with a Margarita in hand 😉

• WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR?

Losing loved ones even though it’s inevitable I know the pain well and not ready to go though it again any time soon.

• WHO DO YOU ADMIRE?

People who take risks and follow their dreams.. people who are free!

• WHAT TRAIT DO YOU DEPLORE IN YOURSELF/OTHER PEOPLE?

Injustice riles my goat!

• WHAT’S YOUR WORST HABIT?

Leaving things to the last minute!

• FAVOURITE WORD?

Pants. I say it about 50 times a day cos it say the name of my cat and it always makes me smile. I also love the word Squirrel.

• WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY SORRY TO?

Anyone who’s waiting for an apology… hit me up!

• WHO DO YOU DESPISE?

Despise is a strong word but people who make up pointless rules and those who follow them get on my tits.

• WHO OR WHAT IS THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE?

My boyfriend of 11 years Dan for letting me be me and my Grandad Reggie. No one compares to his kind soul and cheeky face and I see a lot of Dan in him. We lost him in August 2020 at the ripe old age of 93 and it broke my heart in pieces and turned my world upside down. Now when I think of him it only makes me smile. He lived his life exactly the way he wanted to and was healthy until the end. Such an honourable man. The best. Have I mentioned how great he was? Lol

• WHAT WOULD IMPROVE YOUR LIFE?

Living 6 months of the year on a tropical beach in a very hot climate 🙂

• WORST JOB YOU HAVE EVER DONE?

Do what you love in life and you will never work a day in your life! Saying that when I was a hair and make up artist I was on an early morning shoot after a very late night out. Turned out the location was in a fetish club that had clearly been used the night before. It stank of sex and used condoms were everywhere. I found it hard it get though the day without throwing up. I also burnt my arm with a curling tong.

• WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?

Opening The George & Heart House in Margate and the immense refurbishment job myself and Dan took on. Its a amalgamation of everything i’ve ever worked on in my life all rolled into one space. Bloody hard work but I love it and feel super proud of what we’ve achieved together.

• WHAT KEEPS YOU AWAKE AT NIGHT?

Currently my kitten Queenie playing with my feet.

• HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED?

With love.

• WHAT LESSONS HAS LIFE TAUGHT YOU?

Be there for people, don’t take life too seriously and never think you know it all.

• WHAT WOULD YOUR SUPER POWER BE?

To take away peoples pain and kick Cancer in the arse.

• FAVOURITE SMELL?

Jasmin and Orange Blossom I adore! Both of which are in our very own bespoke George & Heart House scent we created last year.

• WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN A FILM?

Johanna Lumley or Goldie Hawn depending on my mood.

• WHAT SONG WOULD YOU LIKE PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL?

A bit of chanting will do!

My life is all about my big baby The George & Heart House at the moment and I’m looking forward to see what the summer brings our second year in. The Hotel is in full swing, the bar is busy and we have a great team in place. Bring it on! Also off on an adventure to Egypt which is a bucket list for me so cant wait to explore that part of the world!
