BAZARE D PABLO / ATALAKU 8 – IVOIRE PROMOTION EP

A double shot of vital Soukous / Coupé Décalé hybrids out of Abidjan & Paris. Check!!

"Nassima" is a deep hybrid of Soukous and Highlife, recorded in Abidjan in 1975 by the mysterious Bazaré D. Pablo. Thumping percussion, intricate guitar, ethereal vocals and a solid bassline add up to a perennial Sofrito classic.

B Side:

Atalaku 8 – a Paris-based Ivoirien/Congolese group operating out of the legendary Kos studio – lay down a seriously funky house-tempo Coupé Décalé track, topped off with a Siwo dub instrumental.

BROTHER RESISTANCE – RAPSO TAKE OVER

Originally released in 1986, Brother Resistance's Rapso Take Over blends calypso, reggae, disco, funk and poetry to create the artist’s signature Rapso sound. TIP!

A progressive form of poetry from Trinidad and Tobago, Rapso emerged as a means by which to articulate the daily suffering symptomatic of the social unrest afflicting the nation throughout the 1970s and 80s. Brother Resistance played a significant role in the Rapso movement, deploying his music to spread messages of hope and liberation. The authorities took Brother Resistance’s rising status seriously, destroying what they could of his studios and in the process leaving only a small amount of his music in circulation.

Now for the first time we can hear Brother Resistance’s finest work remastered and repressed. The music and the message live on through Rapso Take Over’s stripped back rhythms infused with steel and strings, all carried by the voice of resistance

94 East has become a Minneapolis Sound buzzword owing to the fact that Brooklyn transplant and bandleader Pepe Willie hired a 16-year-old Prince Rogers Nelson to add lead guitar to a bundle of his originals at Minneapolis's Cookhouse Studios in the winter of 1975. TIP!!

Known colloquially as "The Cookhouse 5," session highlight "If You See Me" makes its vinyl debut here and will also be featured on the forthcoming compilation Purple Snow: Forecasting The Minneapolis Sound. The b-side, "Games," is a 45 exclusive.

Future Times is very pleased to introduce this killer 12" to the globe, a serious disc by JACK J. *American Pressing* TIP!

His 12" for Mood Hut last year flipped many wigs and this 12" is further proof that the dude is full-fledged. "Thirstin'" takes the day-in-the-life quintessence of "Something (On My Mind)" even farther, using his voice to beautify the sparkling, spaced track.

The B-Side "Atmosphère" is just as mighty, as Jack channels a velvet Patrick Adams vibe in this gorgeous instrumental, the pianos in particular take the song to a galactic place. Both tracks feel like you could live inside them, each as good for walking around This Life chillin' as they are for the party.
