Frank Ocean, Kanye, Stardust and beyond in a ‘big energy’ playlist from Money Lang.

Money Lang first surfaced online in recent years – outlandish pop inspired dance music with a euphoric, happy go lucky twist which deviates from the sensibilities of sometimes challenging and out electronics.

His music is fun, inspired by a wide array of influences which touch upon pop, hip hop and beyond looking to integrate some of the sensibilities of ‘mainstream’ sound and weave it into an underground tapestry in which worlds collide.

Earlier this year saw Money Lang collaborate with Rainy Miller on a three part single called ‘Loveless’ which runs wild with progressive melodic chords and glitched out drums.

Money Lang has been making music for a long time but this new venture has allowed him to refine and refocus his output, channeling inspiration from different places and sounds.

We asked him to explore this a little further in this playlist…

Frank Ocean - Not Just Money

“i’ve discovered frank ocean pretty late to be honest. i think it was in 2017 when i met one of the studio engineers that worked on blonde that i’ve became very curious and explorative about his music. this album skit from channel orange is quite meaningful for and me and resonates with the project i guess, says a lot.”

  • Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You

“during the 2020 world hiatus, I had time to finally sit down, spend weeks or even months alone, not talking much but just listening to the early cds I bought. lots of house, french house and early mix cds from the italian local clubs and djs. somehow i felt reconnected again and this stardust song is just the soundtrack of my childhood, eating cereals and watching mtv.”

  • Drake - The Language

“heard this for the first time on radio, driving on a saturday night. really clicked with me instantly, think it’s a pretty bold track, lot of space in the beat and quite bragging lyrics from drizzy.”

  • Lorenzo Senni - Angel

“lorenzo senni is a big influence and i think caterina barbieri, him and gabber eleganza really put italy on the map of international electronic music, as many others will do in the future. angel is my fav tune of his. heard this live and been obsessed with it ever since, big tune, stunning how powerful and impactful it is but still restrained in sounds and composition.”

  • Gabber Eleganza - Hardcore Soul Music

“this sounds like the milestone of never sleep, right? like a sound manifesto. reminds me if the work of mark leckey, but more emotional and impactful, i’ve also attended an installation by gabber eleganza in berlin with this mixtape, it was very good and emotionally strong.”

  • Yaeji - Raingurl

“certified banger, love how impactful this is on a dancefloor. make it rain gurl, big big tune this”

  • Kanye West - I'm In It

“yeezus is such an iconic album of our time, and so greatly produced. felt like two distant worlds colliding for a big bold mainstream record. love this beat by evian christ, big fan of all his work.”

  • TNGHT - Dollaz

“hudmo and lunice making a song about dollaz? sold. big fan, genius track.”
