Influences – Keith Worthy

Music

Keith Worthy is the latest person to provide us with a list of influences. Here's what the great man himself had to say about his selections;

"From a musical standpoint, I've been inspired by so much music that it's difficult to name just 10 artists, but with respect to the impact that music has had on me, here are some of the artists that have definitely made a serious impression on me for a variety different reasons. The new album project "The Price of Non-Conformance" on Aesthetic Audio(November 2014) embodies many traits that has driven my appreciation for each of these styles of music throughout the years … from the idea of re-incorporating fantasy into music production to the risk associated with the mindset of celebrating individualism and not following any musical trends."

Ron Trent - Space Ship

Ron Trent is easily one of my all time favourite producers. Ron’s deepness and musicality, in my opinion, is unparalleled and he has released so much great music its hard to chose one, but his music has had significant influence on my entrance into this genre.

  • Loosefingers (Larry Heard) - Lamentation

Larry Heard is a musical genius in my opinion and easily one of my all time favourites. His production has endless range and he has to be given credit for giving this genre much of it integrity.

  • Kerri Chandler & Jerome Sydenham - Powder (Original Demo Mix) [Madhouse Records]

Kerri Chandler is the master at making deep club bangers … from the phatness of his drum arrangements to the his melodic chord play, Kerri is definitely one of the best to do it, and I’ve always kept something from him in my record bag when I’m traveling.

  • Pepe_Bradock_-_Life.Wmv

There are so many European artists that I have a really deep a respect for and who have definitely had some musical impact with respect to my personal taste. Pepe Braddock is definitely one of those artists. I love his approach to his productions and the fact that his music is always off on a tangent.

  • Newcleus - Computer Age(Push The Button 12'Mix)

Electronic Music comes in so many forms, and growing up in Detroit, I loved dance music long before “house and techno”. Newcleus and Juan Atkins are easily two of the best to ever do it for this genre . This style of music is certainly responsible for shaping the electronic side that sometimes comes out in my productions.

  • Cybotron - Alleys Of Your Mind (Alleys Of Your Mind [Deep Space Records] )

  • Bobby Womack - "If You Think You're Lonely Now"

This is going to be such a stretch for some people, but I really love classic soul music, and even in the house and techno genre you can hear that many productions have some soul influence! Bobby Womack is one of the many many artists that I love that are representative of true American soul …

  • The Police - Wrapped Around Your Finger

I love many different types of music, particularly the melodic, well written and purposeful tunes, and that includes loads of 80’s rock music! This is what I listen to at home all day!

  • Night Writers - Let The Music Use You (12 Inch Version)

Sometimes … in this “microwave – what have you done for me lately type society” sometimes the great architects of this sound don’t always get the love that they should,in my personal opinion. Frankie Knuckles’ music is responsible for my initial interest in house period! Regardless if you’re talking about his productions or his DJ sets, his music is always fun to dance to, beautifully written, bumpy and fun! Fortunately, I got an opportunity to tell Frankie this in person many years ago in Chicago, and Frankie was a total gentleman and genuinely pleased to hear that his message was well received even if he was hearing this from a total stranger (me)LoL.

  • Lil Louis - French Kiss [1989] Hq Hd

Kudos to the days when going out to dance was the focus and good music was the primary reason to be there. Louis Burns aka Little Louis is responsible for many huge club bangers that had a really big influence on me and his album “Journey with the Lonely” is one of the best albums that this genre has ever heard!
