Effy‘s built up a lot of steam over the last few years.

Since making a statement with her Mixmag Live warm up set back in 2019, the Blackpool-born DJ has been receiving accolades and props across the board.

Pete Tong picked her out as his one to watch, she’s held down a residency at Warehouse Project and another on the Rinse FM airwaves, but this year she’s turning her attention to the friends and community around her.

As a way of celebrating other female artists in the industry, later this year she’s launching Not Yours – which takes its name from the fact that women do not belong to anyone – as a party to host friends, fellow DJs and some very special guests.

Inevitably, after Effy found her feet as a DJ a few years back, moving into production was a natural progression. She’s since put her hand to several remixes, including retouches for Earth Boys and Scuba, plus a few singles have been released into the world over the last few years showcasing her tastes for stripped back house and techno.

More recently she’s been taking things in a grittier direction as she gears up for the release of her debut EP Not What It Seems. Following an acid-soaked first single, she’s now shared the second ‘Run It’ – another collaboration with pal and fellow producer Mall Grab – which is another acid driven cut that’s full of powerful bass weight.

Ahead of the full release, and a stacked summer of sets which include her Ibiza debut and the return of Junction 2, Effy shares some of her favourite hype tunes that get her amped up for a night behind the decks or out on the dance floor.

Effy X Mall Grab – Run It is out now – the full EP will be released on 17th June. Effy plays Junction 2 this summer (18th-19th June).

Pa Salieu - My Family

One of my all time fave tunes, I listen to this before every single show. Music video is unreal too.

One of my all time fave tunes, I listen to this before every single show. Music video is unreal too.

  • Chase & Status - Program ft Irah

I love Chase & Status. All their tunes are mad and this one in particular always hypes me up for a night out.

  • Skepta - Man

This tune is from one of my fave albums ever. Konnichiwa by Skepta. Hard to pick a favourite but I love the lyrics on this.

  • Little Simz - Rollin Stone

Little Simz is in my opinion one of the best rap artists and her tunes are dope. She definitely empowers me and I feel a sense of confidence when I listen to her tunes. Makes me feel like a bad bitch.

  • Toasty - The Knowledge

One of my all time favourites. This was my last tune when I played WHP and it went off…. It always does! I’ve always been such a fan of Hotflush and Dubstep so yeah this tune is on the top of my list.

  • Yazzus - Sleazy

Yazzus always makes the best hectic and ravey tunes. I think she’s so sick. I always listen to her EP on Steel City Dance Discs to wake me up. Beef Lo Mein is also a fave of mine on there. Whenever I’m djing and I wanna make a statement, I drop this one in for fun.

  • Josh Coakley - Skeng

There’s a lot of stabby techno tunes out there but I think when done well it makes for a classic. This one slaps and always makes me wanna go party whenever I hear it.

  • Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up

The Prodigy have influenced my sound so much. I was in the long distance running team at school and whenever I was on my last mile I always put this tune on. I play it sometimes at shows and it’s always a big moment.

  • HAAi - Purple Jelly Disc

I played this one at Fabric a few weeks back and listened to it several times before it. I love how it starts dark and aggy and then ends in this euphoric vocal moment. Genius from HAAi.

  • Glaskin - Anonymous Call

Huge fan of Glaskin! Their sound production is always fire and their music hits every time. Most of my sets feature a Glaskin tune and it always gets everyone going.
