Boogie Cartel’s Disco Corner #2

Music

This is the bit where we say hello. We're Boogie Cartel, four chaps passionate about music with its roots in the decade between 1976 and 86 – when disco got electric and house was just being born. Dark clubs, late night encounters, neon and sleaze. There was so much musical creativity in that time that we've all picked up unhealthy vinyl habits exploring both the classic and unsung tracks from the era, which gives us enough music to put a party on at The Nest each month for anyone who wants to know.

Boogie Cartel have a monthly residency at The Nest, the next party is on 17th January – check out their official Facebook Page for all the latest news.

Kasso - Kasso. 1981 (12" Classic Jazz Funk)

This was probably the track of the night last month. The piano takes centre stage but that bass runs its hands up and down you like a serial womaniser in an underground Salsa bar. Here’s a disco fact: Kasso was an alias for Italian keyboardist Claudio Simonetti, who’s best known for producing the electronic score for George A Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.

  • The New Jersey Connection - Love Don't Come Easy

The New Jersey Connection only ever released this one track. This is one of those perfect records that straddles two eras in dance music: You’ve got the killer electronic synth hook alongside a live flute and bass, jamming along like best pals. Would love to know what musicians played on this – that bassline is no joke.

  • Divine - Native Love (Step By Step) Original 12 Inch Version 1982

Hi-NRG poppers-induced filth from the tag team of Divine and Bobby O. It’s a shame Divine is no longer with us, he’d probably be pulling out one-liners on the One Show or being a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race by now. Either way the world would be a better place.

  • Damon Harris - It's Music (Original 12'' Mix)

If you could bottle the energy in this track it’d be called ‘Tops Off Juice’ and it’d be like doing a fat line of sherbet and 14 cans of Red Bull in your eye. If you want to hear this in full glory, have a listen to Larry Levan drop it in the ‘Live at the Paradise Garage’ CD. Next level.
