The Hieroglyphic Being Experience – Methods of Transfer Book 1 (Tabernacle)
The singular talent that is Jamal Moss (AKA Hieroglyphic) being teams up with Tabernacle, one of the top labels at the moment for weird and non-conformist techno, and the result is off the scale. The EP takes the form of two Hieroglyphic original live jams and then two interpretations from John Heckle which bring an interesting new slant to the table. As you’d expect from Moss, the originals are dense, non-linear but ultimately very pleasing and the Heckle re-versions are also exquisite. This is a cracker and no mistake.
J.C. – Portrait of the Flying Sky (Boards)
Boards is the more techno-focused offshoot of Fred P’s excellent Soul People Music and they’re all set to drop this excellent new album from JC. The sound focuses on tough, dancefloor techno but there are plenty of moments where more spacious and hypnotic aesthetics shine through. There are also a handful of collabs thrown in too, with excellent contributions from Kastil, Dario Zenker and Psynote. This album is almost exactly where my head is when it comes to techno these days so hats off to J.C. for peering into the untidy depths of my mind. Bravo.
Perseus Traxx – Goddesses of Inspiration 2 (Flight Recorder)
Perseus Traxx is one of the undisputed bosses of acidic, clatter-bang-wallop house and techno music at the moment, to which his releases on M>O>S, Crimes of the Future et al testify. He’s just dropped an excellent 4 tracker of jarring, 707-led house jams on the excellent Flight Recorder Records and it’s definitely one to check. All of the tracks are corkers but the wonky mess of 'Erato, the Muse of Love Poetry' is an absolute killer.
YokoO – Reach for Me (22Digit LTD)
The wax-only offshoot of the North East-based 22 Digit Records has just dropped this rather fine cut of drop-tempo house goodness from the french artist YokoO and it’s well worth checking out. Pressed onto a rather snazzy red vinyl, the original is a warm yet slightly moody groover. We’ve also got 3 remixes, the pick of which is the Truss’me re-interpretation which takes the sultry pace and feel of the original and expands it with chugging percussion and meandering flutes. Peachy stuff.
