8 Tracks: To Accompany An Eclipse With Lance Neptune

Music

Lance Neptune is an upcoming artist from Glenarden, Maryland, USA. To say that this is not an area known for it's Electronic music is an understatement, the population of this small city is only between six and seven thousand. However, somehow Lance Neptune has managed to tap into a thoroughly modern mindset and is reintroducing balearic charm back to the world of Electronic music. His debut EP is set for release on Lone's Magic Wire label this February. It is reminiscent of music which is currently blossoming in Vancouver, it wouldn't perhaps sound out of place as a release for Mood Hut or 1080p and the design of the sleeve certainly echoes a similar theme. We asked him to pick eight tracks which would accompany an eclipse. Here they are:

Tycho - Dive

Tycho has always been an inspiration: nice peaceful sounds that puts your mind at rest. This song in particular reminds me of a sunset with the moon slowly rising for a full eclipse.

  • Tycho - Dive

Tycho has always been an inspiration: nice peaceful sounds that puts your mind at rest. This song in particular reminds me of a sunset with the moon slowly rising for a full eclipse.

  • Heathered Pearls - Interior Architecture Software

This song makes me feel like I can do anything! It reminds me of discovery and exploration. I’m instantly inspired when I hear this track! The feeling and sound of a new dimension.

  • Lone - Dream Girl/Sky Surfer

I remember the first time that I heard this song. It was the first song of Lone’s that I was introduced to: crazily enough I was on a rooftop with friends enjoying the super moon. I remember telling my friend that this sounds similar to something I would make and ever since then I’ve been a fan of his work going back and checking out his discography.

  • 813 - Splinters Of Violet Glasses

The melodies and synth work on this song is pure and full of life. This gives me the VHS feel very very raw track from 813. This is another track I listened to while watching the moon with friends.

  • Pixelord - Novosib

Instant nostalgia sparks whenever I listen to this song. I love the synth pads with the flush underpaying keys. The sample also rings in my head for a few days after listening everything about this song is perfect for an eclipse.

  • Lord Raja - Butterfly On A Jet

The eclipse is in full view with this song Lord Raja’s never ending landscapes and percussions move you into the sweet soft synthpad which lets you know it’s an eclipse, the bass coming in hard. I love Lord Raja.

  • Dauwd - And

Dauwd has a way of making you move. This has to be one of my favourites from him. The constant groove is immense, I love the way he builds and builds and builds. He has a pocket I’m too familiar with coming from the D.C Maryland area listening to go-go.

  • Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman

I first heard this song when I was with my mom at a department meant store when I was five or six. I never knew the name of the song, just the keys and the lyrics. Fast forwarding a few years ,a rapper T.I. sampled the song creating “Why You Wanna” which sounded so familiar so I looked up the song and found out he sampled, Gypsy Woman. This song takes me back to my childhood and I can confidently say it’s my favourite song.
