8 Tracks: For The Late Shift with Rudolf C

Music

Originally hailing from Australia, last year Rudolf C upped sticks and joined a wealth of other producers who've made the move to Europe. Now residing in Berlin, alongside fellow Aus native Shedbug he runs vinyl-only imprint Salt Mines, a hotbed for dreamy breaks-smattered musings that have charted EPs from the likes of Reptant, Roza Terenzi, Life Sciences Division and, of course, the label heads themselves.

Aside from Salt Mines, over the last four years Rudolf has made homes on Sensu, Lost Palms and X-Kalay, the latter with whom he will release Deep Sea Survivor, later this week. Featuring in DJ Seinfeld's recent DJ-Kicks mix, this forthcoming slice of goodness perfectly showcases his distinct sound; deep, atmospheric house and breaks realised through a passion for live hardware.

Ahead of the release of Deep Sea Survivor this Wednesday he picks out eight songs to soundtrack those late night sessions.

Club Dread (Harmonic Mix)

I got this one in Moscow for roughly a euro, so so good. Played just a touch faster and it becomes a super lovely dubbed club track.

  • Celeda - Messin With My Mind 1997

Such a good bass line, discordant and weird yet still so feel good. The Discogs comment sums it up best ” You’re not allowed to hear this unless you’ve already been dancing for about 10 hours and you’ve started on a new round of drugs at the after-hours. ” lol

  • Mark Ambrose - Makossa (Mix 2)

Bless the good people over at is/was for reissuing this and a whole bunch of other heat! For when the late shift gets weird. Paranoid, noisy heater complete with wierdo filter work.

  • Unknown Artist - Drumprints Sampler One - Stone Side

This tunes mint, whenever I listen to it I get a really heartwarming Crash Bandicoot feel from the percs, but it’s the other side that makes this record. I can’t find it anywhere on the net but think tribal-esque break with a big wobble bass line, really cheap too!

  • Rodney Hunter - Find It Ft. Farda P (Makossa Megablast Remix)

Probably an all time favourite here, best played late late late. The instrumental break around 2:20 holds a special place in my heart. The rest of the record sucks though.

  • Metro L.A - To A Nation Rockin (On A Long Journey)

I don’t have this because I’m broke but wow. The kinda tune that, when first hearing it, made me immediately stand up. Real slick one.

  • Sanasol & Thor - Flush

Really cool dubby tool track. Ten minutes of a driving drum track for you to play some weird stuff over the top!

  • D Base - Dreaming (Uk Garage -1998-)

Classic. Trying to wedge more and more garage in these days and this one is always a go to 🙂
