8 Tracks For Booty Lovers – Scott Marshall

Music

Though to the untrained eye the phrase 'booty lovers' may be something that you shouldn't be talking about around children (I'm not sure you should ever use the word booty around a child – Ed.) those in the know will be well aware of the raw power of the most bootilicious sounds. Scott Marshall is one such appreciator of the style and the London-based DJ/Producer demonstrates a distinctive UK Booty sound on his debut EP. To celebrate all things bright and bootyful, Scott provides us with a selection of sounds and videos for booty lovers to get their eyes and ears around.

Scott Marshall's self-titled EP is out now via Third Ear Recordings.

Steve Bicknell - Lost Recordings #4 - In Order To Remember One Needs To Know (Side A-1)

It all started from a tape that was being passed around my older friends. This had a story behind it and I was told it was thrown out at a Lost party. One of my friends managed to grab it and bring it back for all to enjoy. This tape was a DJ Milton And Deeon mix and was thrown out by themselves. One of the only times they played in the UK back then. I think this was one of the only nights in London that was getting in DJs from this sort of style and was run by Steve Bicknell. Unfortunately my times at these nights were a bit later in the 90s but from the first time i went I never missed one event for over 10 years.

This was one of them classic Lost tunes me and all my mates remember. Brings back too many good memories!

  • D.J. Deeon - Da Bomb

On this tape there was a style of music that I had never heard before and completely blew my mind! We were all addicted and from then on it was our mission to hunt out anything from these artists!

This is one of my favourite DJ Deeon tunes which was on the tape. Its always in my bag. This is one of them tunes that gets peoples heads turning round and saying ‘What the hell is this style of music???’ Banger!

  • Dj Milton - Them Pantys

Just one of many quality tunes by DJ Milton. Raw, hard and fast! Props DM style!

  • A Brief History Of Dance Mania Records

As I looked further into this music (bare in mind not much internet in them years so not that easy to find) I managed to source a few shops that knew about this style and occasionally got them in. For me, Dance Mania Records was my favourite label and I’ve managed over the years to get hold of a few of the older releases. Also Relief Records was a quality label so I collected a lot of their stuff as well. This is a short documentary about the history of Dance Mania.

  • Jeff Mills - Liquid Room, Tokyo 1995 (Over 1h Live-Mix)

This was one of the first techno mixes I ever heard and it changed my life. The mixing is so raw and quick and Jeff Mills just chucks in DJ Funk tunes in the middle. This is how I learnt that Booty can be put into any style of music, techno, disco, house. Anything!

  • Disco D - Ghettronics Side A

Around 2000 I was lucky enough to see Disco D play 93 Feet East in London. This was one of the greatest sets I’ve ever seen live and he was a true genius behind the decks. He was so quick at mixing, cutting and scratching booty in a hip hop style that was just fascinating to watch. Me and my friend always laugh about that night where he was throwing out a few records to people as he was playing and a girl in front of me caught one. We said to her that she was lucky to catch it and as we said that she went to break it in half!! “Stop!! What are you doing?” “Well I was gonna give you half?” “Na just keep it!” Disco D (1980-2007 RIP)

  • The Sensuous Black Woman

The Sensuous Black Woman. This is ’70s Spoken Word and is some of the filthiest stand up put on vinyl. So funny to listen to, talking about fucking and all that messy shit! The Madam is one of the main talkers on it and has been sampled on quite a few DM tunes by Jammin Gerald and others. Great stuff for Booty tracks!

  • Jammin Gerald Boiler Room Chicago Dj Set

Jammin Gerald Boiler Room set. Even today Booty still going strong and all the originators are smashing it still in the clubs! Its good to see that classic tunes that were made around 20 years ago are still getting people moving.

  • Farley Jackmaster Funk & Bad Boy Bill Old School Chicago House Music Mix 1987

Farley “Jackmaster” Funk was a big influence to a lot of Booty producers who grew up listening to his radio show on WBMX in the ’80s. For me, listening to his old radio shows his DJing is well advanced for its time. Another example of a real turntablist.
