The Syrian National Orchestra Will Open The Orange Stage At Roskilde Festival 2016
The Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music will be opening Roskilde Festival’s biggest stage this year joining the likes of New Order, PJ Harvey, Tame Impala, Action Bronson and Mac Demarco.
Their conductor Issam Rafea will be working with producer Damon Albarn, the two first played together at the Damascus Opera House in 2008. Their continued partnership has seen them feature on the Gorillaz track ‘White Flag’ and on their 2010 tour.
This is the 8th time Albarn will be gracing the Roskilde Festival stage. The concert will reunite artists from inside and outside Syria, after many musicians have been forced to leave due to recent conflict. The 8 day festival is non-profit and all profits go towards helping cultural and humanitarian purposes.
Running between 25th June – 2nd July, the Orange Stage concert, presented by Africa Express, will be on the 29th June.
