Tevo Howard Quick FIre

Music

Eat The Beat return for their second instalment in London on Sat 21st Sep with a very special guest from Chicago Tevo Howard. Tevo has risen to prominence over the past few years with rather fine releases on Rush Hour, Buzzin’ Fly and his own Beautiful Granville label. His tracks combine that raw Chi-town jackin’ energy with real musical depth, which is no doubt down to the many years he spent studying music and bass guitar at college. His live sets have been well lauded, but ETB wanted to invite the man to help us celebrate the Chicago sound by getting behind the decks to bring his trademark housediscoacidsoulpostpunk mix all with the aforementioned Chicago jack.
We had a lil ole quick fire Q&A ahead of the date.

What is hot currently in the Chicago music scene?

The average Chicagoan today tends to embrace multiple genres of music, opening mind to a new era of consciousness in the understanding of the primitive language of music.

Do you have a preferred area of the industry you like to work, DJing, Producing or Remixing?

Have been re-addressing the bass guitar lately… And falling in love with the instrument once again. Aside from that I am a die hard DJ, and have been leaving the creative aspects of production to a short rest…

Your favourite DJ right now?

Johnny Fonseca is a local Chicago DJ, and hard working man. With professional skateboarding at his side, Johnny and I have spent many hours together both at the skatepark, and behind the turntables… Brilliant dj.

Other than playing at Eat The Beat, what other parties are you really looking forward to?

I am looking forward to first Fridays at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and also the following tour for my alias: SEQUENCE REPORT.

Is eating the beat good for your health?

Once saw a man devour and choke on a beat, so you have to be careful with the atonal structures (mainly the the drums). Drink plenty and definitely save room for the big beats to avoid over consumption.

Tevo Howard plays Eat The Beat this weekend. Full details and tickets available here.

His new album as Sequence Report is due out in early October.
