Seven Davis Jr had a breakthrough year in 2013, winning plaudits left right and center for his releases on Jay Simon’s Must Have Records, Kutmah’s Izwid and an appearance on the Kutmah curated Brownswood comp, and his star is set for further ascendency with a release forthcoming on Funkineven’s peerless Apron label in a couple of months. SDJR has been making music for years, but was widely ignored until picked up by Kutmah – with the Izwid release featuring archive material stretching back to 1999.
