DJ, producer and PT/5 boss Happa has dropped 'Crucified', a 12-track mixtape in homage to the noughties.

Opening with the chimes of Big Ben welcoming in the new millennium, the mixtape uses samples of news stories about the PlayStation 2, Michael Jackson’s death and David Blaine between edits of 00s icons, including Leona Lewis, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Deadmau5. On ‘Hyped Mango’, Happa splices a Soulja Boy sample with Joy Orbison’s seminal anthem, while on ‘Fry Me A Liver’ Justin Timberlake gets a Masters At Work re-fit.

Talking about the mixtape, Happa explains: “This project started when I made a one-off edit of a Nelly Futado track for a b2b set I did with Ifeoluwa for her Intervention night. The mixtape then grew out of a combination of a global pandemic and my girlfriend’s obsession with noughties culture.

‘Crucified’ follows Happa’s 2018 mixtape ‘عشق’(the Farsi word for love), which saw him remix Lewis’s cult 1983 album ‘L’Amour’. As well as releasing music on Bleep, Whities (now AD 93) and his own PT/5 imprint, Happa has collaborated with artists such as FKA twigs, David Byrne and Chloe x Halle.
