Vocalist and songwriter Samii joins Dego's 2000black imprint for her debut EP which blends her influences in soul, R&B and electronic music.
An ode to self-discovery, ‘Figuring It Out’ channels the soulful, improvised dance music at the core of Dego's imprint, drawing personal inspiration from her own experiences of love, loss and personal growth.
Informed by Samii's eclectic music taste and passion for travel, the four tracks move from the dreamy bittersweet nostalgia of opener 'Spaced Out Summer Tours & Back Again’ to the majestic ‘Wake Me Up’, while on the flip ‘For Too Long’ brings a sense of restlessness with fleet-footed percussion and rhythmic improvisation and the empowering disco-tinged sonics of ‘Here To Luv Myself’, described by Samii as “a no negativity zone”, rounds the EP off on a high.
Rooted in the broken beat sounds that Dego's imprint has become synonymous with, the EP unfurls as it plays out, growing and evolving unto something wholly unexpected. As Samii describes: “Only when returning to something unfinished can I get a glimpse of where it’s going.”
1 - Wake Me Up
2 - Spaced Out Summer Tours & Back Again
3 - Here to Luv Myself
4 - For too long
Samii’s ‘Figuring It Out’ is released on 27th November on 2000black.
