Auntie Flo Releases Ep Of Cuban Electronic Jams

Music

In Feb 2014 Auntie Flo performed at the inaugural Havana World Music Festival, performing to over 8,000 people over the course of two evenings.

Partly inspired by Mala’s 2013 album ‘Mala in Cuba’, they now release 4 tracks recorded in old town Havana, collaborating with a new breed of young Cuban musicians. Titled Highlife World Series – Cuba the EP opens with a 13 minute jam that combines low synthetic kicks with live vocals and percussion. It's got a stripped, minimal aesthetic that keeps it focused on the dancefloor, rather than some coffee table world/dance fusion crap. The track travels to a deeper, mesmeric place – apparently Weatherall has already been giving it some play –  check out a clip below;

This release is the first of 3 planned Highlife World EPs, set to be released in quick succession over the next few months, with Kenya and Uganda rounding out the trilogy. Each release features original songs produced in collaboration with local musicians. Find out more over here
