Thomass Jackson has built a sound through bands, traditional instruments and massive raves held in Buenos Aires.

From releases born in friends’ studios, world tours as a bassist for Capri on Gigolo Records, and a steady run of releases on Gomma, Correspondant, Multi Culti and La Dame Noir – Thomass clearly knows what he’s doing.

By the late 2000s his sound blended to more psychedelic and percussive rhythms, which developed into playing across countries that include China, Lithuania, Serbia, Bolivia, Mexico and Germany to name a few – along with sharing booths with the likes of Manfredas, Jennifer Cardini, Tiger & Woods, In Flagranti, Blond:ish, Horse Meat Disco and Mike Simonetti.

Based in Mexico City, Thomass Jackson delivers  a mix that contains bass-first selections, weird corners and slow hypnosis into full-body motion. Music that doesn’t chase drops and trusts the listener to stay.

For The Ransom Note Mix, it felt right to hand him the controls. Press play.

Please introduce yourself…

Hello! My name is Thomass Jackson.

Who are you, where are you and what are you

I am a musician, producer and dj from Argentina living in Mexico City.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

My music sounds like an exploration of Liquid Space Mountains.

Where was the mix recorded?

The mix was recorded at my studio in Mexico City.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

A dark sweaty room , a great soundsystem, lowlights and 5 smoke machines.

What should we be wearing?

Lights clothes or no clothes at all.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Location and system: see answer to question 5. Turntables and cdjs with a rotary mixer.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

My favourite track of this mix is the last one. It’s a track from 2001 by Russian producers SCSI 9.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

CD1 of Global Underground by Danny Tenaglia in Athens. It’s a mix that to this day I can listen to from start to finish without skipping a track.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

It will probably be Harvey but at the most intoxicated stage of his life.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I never could afford a dj set up at home. I decided to invest my money in synthesizers and production tools.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

They are both important. First one to catch the crowd and make sort of a statement of what is coming. Last one is important because it gives you the chance to sort of make people feel a certain way before the music’s over.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First one was Woody Mc Bride – Basketball Heroes. I remember being at a record store and being super excited for it. Last one I can’t remember because to be honest I stopped buying records a long time ago.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

XTC

If it was an animal what would it be?

A Space Cat.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

They are all mixable if you apply yourself.

Upcoming in the world of…

Releasing a lot of new original music, remixes and djing all around the world.

Anything else we need to discuss?

Support independent producers since they are the ones who make the music that most djs play and most of the time they go unrecognized and the djs take all the credit. Also support your local scene the more you can. Go to local parties and support your local djs and not just the international ones.
