Shine A Light On… Diego Krause

Music

Berlin’s Diego Krause self-released his first two releases on his Unison Wax label in 2014. It got the love from critics and contemporaries alike. He starts 2015 with a fresh EP of textured house music on aforemnetioned label which veers from soulful vocal samples into his hip-hop roots and back into New York and New Jersey house.

Hustle told us it was about time we featured him on R$N, we said sorry we hadn't already and obediently rectified said situation.
So here's his mix mandate and a brief chin wag about who is and what he's about.

Get it on:

Who are you?

Diego Krause

Where are you?

Berlin

What are you?

Producer, DJ and running two labels, Unison Wax and Beste Modus along with my partners.

Where was the mix recorded?

At IPSE Club in Berlin during the week.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

I would say 'Headtrack' from the new Paranoid London album.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I never had a set up at home but we hang out at the studio a lot to play records on 1210s and a DJM-400.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

I'd say the starting track in general. I never really plan on an ending.

What were the first and last records you bought?

The first vinyl I ever bought was the ItaloJohnson 04. One of the last records is Steven Tang's "Uprise In The Orient" on Syncrophone which is also in the mix.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything…

A tough one to mix is Playin' 4 The City's "This Road" cause it has a 7/4 count.
