R$N Presents: The Noonday Underground Mix With Brendan
The Noonday Underground is a brand new project founded by General Public. Over the coming months Ransom Note is delighted to be able to bring you a series of exclusive mixes recorded from the Thursday afternoon parties which take place at Grow in Hackney. The concept is simple…
"Every Thursday at Grow, Hackney we celebrate music, art, conversation and community. This week Grow is teaming up with General Public, Ransom Note, and The Gaia Gallery to bring you The Noonday Underground, an early evening music and community social where DJ's play for 1 hour (ish) slots. The session will be recorded and released throughout the month on a weekly basis on Ransom Note."
Next up is Brendan…
First record you bought?
Cymande – Promised Heights: I was totally in love with 'Brothers on the Slide'
What record never leaves your bag?
Nothing is always there, but I guess the Risko Connection version of 'It's My House' is usually. It's all about the end of the night tunes…;)
What are you listening to at the moment?
All sorts – I've always been a huge boogie / italo / disco fan but recently I've been a little more into incorporating African influences into what I play. I was looking for a copy of T.Z Junior "Sugar My Love" for ages and finally got one recently.
Favourite venue?
As a place to hang out with friends and listen to music on a great system, I've really been digging Behind This Wall on Mare St. As for a club, I was really impressed with De School in Amsterdam recently: really interesting use of space + killer music.
Death row meal?
Oysters, Rack of Lamb + Beans + Potatoes. Do nothing by halves.
Best fact?
Over 10 years ago, I met this guy hanging out with friends in Edinburgh. He asked me if I knew the definition of the word "peruse". I replied with something like "to casually browse". He said "Ha! You're wrong, it actually means the opposite – to carefully read / scrutinise". I thought, what a cock, who does that to someone they just met? Turns out, he was sound & we're still good friends to this day. And, at least I know what "peruse" really means now.
Where can we find you?
Whats next for Brendan / Customs?
This Saturday at the Yard in Hackney Wick, throwing down with Paris' finest crew: La Mamies, and London's own General Public!
