Brian Ring: The ‘Shine A Light On’ Mix

The journey of a disc jockey and producer is not one which follows an exponential path. It takes time and often involves bubbling beneath the surface for spells at a time. One producer who's career has ebbed and flowed is Brian Ring, an Irishman now based in Berlin he has previously released music on Gerd Janson's Running Back record label. Not small feat in itself. Since then he has been honing his craft fiercely, working on new music whilst playing across Europe. 

We caught up with him as he delivers a 'Shine A Light On' mix. Listen and read the interview below: 


Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Brian Ring, Wrangelkiez, Berlin. Musical Conduit.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Sounds like myself

Where was the mix recorded?

Bedroom

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Wherever works best

What should we be wearing?

Whatever is comfortable to move freely

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Somewhere out in nature with a great view on a sunny day. All the industry standards plus some wedge monitors.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

The first one. Great stuff coming out of Denmark right now.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Tee Scott, Club Zanzibar, New Jersey 1980.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Gerd Janson. It would be fun.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

First- Citronic Hawaii IV, 
Now – Xdj 700s, DJM 500 Mixer, Technics1210s.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

End on. Gotta finish strongly.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First record – Balearico,Balearico.
Last record – Dream House Tropicana Volume 4 

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Fillet Steak

Everything is mixable
