The new party is being launched in response to ‘oversaturated lineups’ and the state of the modern dancefloor.

Aptly named ‘Absolutely Massive Events’ are set to launch in London with a new party series designed to flip the state of the modern dancefloor on its head. There has been much debate and dispute as to the sensationalist role of the DJ of the present with many growing tired of the shows of grandeur and over the top publicity associated with modern day clubland.

The new party will be focussed on cultivating an atmosphere and a culture based around experience rather than the DJ booth itself.

The first event will take place on the 7th of June at The Bath House.

Party founder James Donaldson reflects on the ethos behind the new party explaining why he feels it to be important.

“Absolutely Massive came out of frustration with oversaturated DJ lineups at huge venues that, to me, weren’t adding anything meaningful to the artistry of a performance. I wanted to recreate the feeling I had going out in Glasgow in my younger years – intimate, high-energy nights where the whole environment had been thoughtfully put together, not just the lineup. The kind of nights where every detail contributed to a real sense of presence and immersion.

Right now, I personally feel a lot of younger people aren’t as excited about going out. Their only options seem to be expensive super-clubs or big open-air events. There’s a lack of affordable, grassroots spaces where people can actually form a connection with music and community. And without that, clubbing becomes passive. There’s no atmosphere, no identity, and often not even a good sound system.

What I’m trying to do with Absolutely Massive is flip the model. Well-known acts, intimate spaces, low ticket prices. But the twist is, we obscure the DJ behind a mesh curtain. The idea is to focus less on who’s playing and more on how it feels to be there. It’s not about videoing the person behind the booth, it’s about letting go and getting stuck into the experience. DJing is the easy part, it’s the curation of the atmosphere that really matters.

The night isn’t genre specific either. Artists are encouraged to play what they want, when they want. It’s about trusting the DJ to guide the room and giving them the space to experiment without the pressure of delivering a ‘big moment’ every second tune. It’s a space for full creative freedom.

We also put a real focus on visuals. Each event begins with an hour long audiovisual installation created by an emerging artist. It’s a chance to spotlight talent beyond just the music and show that a great night is the sum of many parts: lighting, sound, visuals and curation. I want to shine a light on all the elements that go into making these events feel special, not just the headliners.

My hope is that this can grow into something much bigger – a movement that brings music back to people in a way that feels real, exciting, and actually fun again. This is the start of an Absolutely Massive movement.”
