Dance Tunnel Announce Closure

Art & Culture

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the closure of the Dalston club Dance Tunnel. Friends and long time supporters of the site, the club was set up by the creators of Dalston Superstore and Voodoo Ray's back in 2012 and quickly became an institution on the night-time map of E8's Kingsland Road and a champion of all things left of centre techno, house and beyond. Citing licensing issues within the borough of Hackney as the primary driver for the closure of the club it will leave another gaping hole for in London's night time landscape as the onslaught of gentrifcation and commodification of this city continues apace.

Their full statement as follows:

"We regret to announce that Dance Tunnel is to close it's doors in August. Sadly the licensing climate in Hackney has made it impossible for us to get the hours we need to make Dance Tunnel sustainable in the long term.

We would like to sincerely apologise to all the Tunnel Dancers who we are letting down. We really tried to make it work. Thanks to all the artists, DJs, promoters and family members who have shared their favourite music and moments with us over the last three-and-a-bit years. Thanks to everyone who has made our basement such a special place. Sorry we never got round to fixing that slope on the dance floor."

There's still time to dance in the tunnel one – or two – last times though. Find out all that is going on here before it's too late.

Big love to all those involved with what has been a most excellent 3 1/2 years of tunnel dancing! x
