LFA directing workshops, a short stories panel and a keynote speech by legendary Full Metal Jacket DOP John Ward are among the events when one of the most popular short film communities announces the lineup for its sixth annual film festival

Since 2006 The Smalls ( has been on a mission to discover and help develop and promote independent voices in film through contests, showcases and events. Its flagship celebration, The Smalls Short Film Fest remains at the core of the communitys quest to bring some of the worlds best new directors and writers before a growing, curious audience. This years festival promises not only the screening and awards recognition of incredible short films, but also a few events worthy of any young filmmakers attention. 

On 21 September, when The Smalls Short Film Fest 2011 opens its doors and starts its film screenings at The Gallery Soho (123 Charing Cross Road, London, WC2H 0EW, UK) the first scheduled event also kicks off. The Smalls Short Stories Panel, a creatively packed show and tell session, starts at 7:00PM and features a group of successful and award winning short filmmakers who share their inspiration and behind the scenes filmmaking experiences. 

 When 22 September comes around, and before The Smalls Short Film Fest awards ceremony that is held that same evening, filmmakers can get in on a special treat when London Film Academy presents: Acting for Directors Workshop both between 1:00PM – 2.30PM and 3:00PM – 4.30PM, with actor and MA Acting Training Coach Simon McLinden (Emmerdale, Exorcist Prequel Dominion, Paradox) who will offer advice on how to speak to actors in their own language and get the most from their performance.

All of The Smalls Short Film Fest 2011, from screenings to the final awards ceremony, is held at the same venue: The Gallery Soho, 125 Charing Cross Road, London, WC2H 0EW, UK and they are all FREE. (The awards party in by invitation only)
