Lee Scratch Perry Celebrates 80th Birthday With Film Release

The "sprightly" 79 year old 'Godfather Of Dub' Lee 'Scratch' Perry is seeing in his 80th year with a documentary and art piece called "Visions Of Paradise". For the past 15 years, director Volker Schaner has followed Perry on a spiritual and geographical journey taking in Jamaica, Ethiopia, Switzerland and London. Complementing the filmed footage of the man himself (plus an all-star cast of dub and reggae musicians) are unique animated interludes by artist Maria Sargarodschi. The footage combines Perry's imaginary cosmos and is influenced by the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine. The movie features his “secret laboratory” in Switzerland, which despite its recent destruction by fire, is immortalised in celluloid.
Lee will also be performing live shows across the UK in March.
Lee Scratch Perry’s Vision Of Paradise is in selected cinemas from February and will also be available on-demand. Full details can be found HERE.
