Commune host exclusive online screening of ‘Sisters With Transistors’: the untold story of electronic music’s pioneering female composers
Commune and House of Vans will host an exclusive, pre-release digital screening of ‘Sisters With Transistors’, a film that traces the forgotten stories of electronic music’s pioneering female composers, accompanied by a special Q&A podcast with director Lisa Rovner and sound designer Marta Salogni, hosted by DJ and audio producer Zakia Sewell.
Through archive footage and audio, ‘Sisters With Transistors’ unearths an untold history of several composers who pushed the boundaries of electronic music and helped provide the foundations for how many produce and listen to music today.
Communicated through these visionary women, including Clara Rockmore, Daphne Oram, Bebe Barron, Pauline Oliveros, Delia Derbyshire, Maryanne Amacher, Eliane Radigue, Suzanne Ciani, and Laurie Spiegel, the film documents the evolution of electronic music, from those at the forefront of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, to those who formulated new schools of musical thought and found new methods of creating sound.
Tickets for the event are free and available online HERE. Spaces are limited to 200 and viewing is available only for those within the UK. The audio Q&A will be available on 25th February 2021 via the House of Vans website and Commune’s Mixcloud.
