So, that time of year's rolled round again, it's Notting Hill Carnival. And these days, as well as being synonomous with jerk chicken, dub, weed and rum, Carnival is also eagerly awaited for the bacchanalian bash that is the Red Bull Major Lazer party. Housed beneath the musical heritage-rich Westway, the party gets wild and is as hot a ticket as they come – the tickets all went in 37 seconds last year. What's more, everyone at the party gets free drink and food all day. What more can you ask? We've got two tickets to give away, to be in with a chance of winning them email: comps@theransomnote.co.uk with MAJOR LAZER ME in the subject title. Good luck! Read all about the party below:
For the fifth year at Notting Hill, genre-defying selector Diplo, with his Major Lazer Soundsystem, hosts and tops the bill, bringing one of the craziest line-ups yet to smash the all-day event to pieces. Grammy Award winning international super star Sean Paul, Brooklyn-based producer and Major Lazer collaborator Dre Skull,Trinidadian soca hero Machel Montano and N’Walins bounce rapper Nicky Da B all weigh in with exclusive live performances.
Next up, carnival mainstay and champion clasher David Rodigan MBE appears for one of his not-to-be-missed Notting Hill encounters. Joining them, Red Bull Music Academy graduates Hudson Mohawke, Doc Daneeka and Lunice bring their own strains of bass-heavy carnival sounds to W11’s hottest party, whilst Bedford’s funkiest export Lil Silva, man-of-many-rhythms Melé and the Labrinth-signed purveyor of glitch Raf Riley complete the bill.
As ever, there’ll also be a surprise guest dropping in to shake things up on the day. With previous guests including the likes of M.I.A, Santigold, Lee Perry and Toots & The Maytals, this year’s unannounced act promises to cause yet another almighty stir.
