The Explorers Club is an American-based international multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research. The club was founded 1904 in New York City, and has served as a meeting point for explorers and scientists worldwide, all of whom are united in the ideal that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore. Fans of disseminating knowledge through public lecture, The Explorers Club put on talks throughout the world – the latest of these coming to London is an indepth look at the science of the psychedlic experience.

From the press release:

"The traditional use of psychedelic plants in spiritual and shamanic rituals has continued for thousands of years, while the use of psychedelics in the developed world has also grown steadily in the last century as ever more plants are discovered and new synthetic chemicals are created. Since the earliest clinical, anthropological and recreational reports of the use of these powerful psychoactive substances they have been associated with all manner of exceptional experiences, ranging from the mystical to the psychical. The question arises as to whether these transpersonal and ostensibly paranormal experiences are genuine and what can be gained from studying them scientifically."

The lecture will be delivered by Dr David Luke, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Greenwich. "He has studied techniques of consciousness alteration from South America to India, from the perspective of scientists, shamans and Shivaites, but increasingly has more questions than answers."

The Science of Psychedelic Experience takes place on Friday November 21st, stating at 7pm Tickets are strictly limited to 30, and sold for £4/£5 each. More info on the facebook page.
